Is it on the box? Can I figure it out before I open it?
It's brand new. Seems like the G0 is king, I want to see if that's
what I got... or is it the lotery?

If you can read the Process Spec Number (in your case it is SLACR) then use
it to look up the information on the Intel website at
http://processorfinder.intel.com/default.aspx .

According to Intel, the G0 stepping (the Intel term is CPU stepping, not
revision number) is the ONLY stepping available for the Q6600.

You know, some of these questions are best investigated BEFORE purchasing.
But you are lucky - so far. Continue to post until you get a usable
explanation for your questions - some of the answers are difficult to
express clearly and concisely.

Also, it is good practice to include ALL the information for a post in the
body of the post. As it is, your post doesn't make much sense unless the
'Subject' line is also placed in the post body.

Good luck.

http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ProcFam=2774&sSpec=&OrdCode=

SLACQ 2.66 GHz Q6700 05A 1066 MHz 65 nm G0 8 MB LGA775
SL9UM 2.40 GHz Q6600 05B 1066 MHz 65 nm B3 8 MB LGA775
SLACR 2.40 GHz Q6600 05A 1066 MHz 65 nm G0 8 MB LGA775

I see two Q6600's there. There could be a label on the box, with the
five character SLxxx thing on it.

You are correct, there ARE two Q6600 Process Spec Numbers. I guess I just
saw the Q6700 and the Q6600 and somehow assumed there was a third Q6x00 B^(

Somewhere I still have the Intel box for my E4300 I bought in March. I will
look at the label (when I can find it.)

The Q6600 certainly sounds attractive, but I've promised myself that I will
wait for the 'Nelahem' before upgrading (which I assumes means at least a
new motherboard.) Especially as I just replaced my notebook with a Core2
Duo and 8600M GT.

Yes, I promised this myself, too. But then I became impatient yesterday
and ordered a Q6600 and a P5N32-SLI. :/
I'm so excited to see how well UT3 runs together with my 8800GTS 640MB
with a GPU-clock at 670MHz and VRAM-clock at 1100MHz Smile
Currently, with my Pentium D 2.8 @ 3.6GHz, UT3 runs at 30-60 frames at
full detail, 1600x1200, but the framerate is not at all stable and it's
not really playable. At least not against 'Skilled' Bots. Smile
